SUMMARY:All-Section Mount Seymour Winter Camp
LOCATION:https://maps.app.goo.gl/P1Z9FAwCLuWYxjoH7\; Camp Luther\, Mount Seymour
DESCRIPTION:=== Camp details: ===\nThis is our annual all-Section winter camp at Mount Seymour that includes Beavers\, Cubs\, Scouts and Venturers.\n \nThe Beavers and some Cubs will sleep in the main cabin (on bunkbeds with mattresses). Some senior Cubs and some Scouters will be in tents. Meals will be prepared and eaten inside the cabin. We are planning day hikes\, snow shoeing (snow permitting) and other activities over the weekend. The Venturers help out cooking and running the camp and typically sleep in the main hall.\n \nYouth and scouters tenting outside will be camped in the snow surrounding the chalet.\n \nA packing list will be provided by your Section Scouter. It is essentially the same as any other camp\, but we don't need sleeping foamies (for those in the cabin) and we don't need to bring a mess kit.\n \nYour Section will have a cold weather talk at a meeting prior to the camp.\n \nYouth camping outside should assemble the cold weather gear they're planning to take to camp and bring it in your backpack to a meeting. This includes sleeping bag\, sleeping pad\, winter boots\, gloves/mitts/toques\, long johns\, etc. This will help us make sure they are prepared and that there are no surprises when they arrive on the first night (running shoes\, no jacket\, etc.). It will likely be cold at night so it is important that they keep warm and dry. \n \nThe camp fee is $60.00 for members and $50 for parents and should be given to your Section Leader or electronically through the payment link provided. The cost for the bus is covered in the camp fee. Due to space limitation\, we must limit parent attendance to one Beaver parent per child. \n \nFood is provided so there is no need to bring your own. At Mt. Seymour\, all the dishes and cooking gear is there\, so there is also no need to bring a mess kit.\n \nLabel\, label\, label. Everything must have your name on it. There will 50 pairs of black snowboots by the door...\n\n=== Transportation details: ===\nThe cabin is located about 200m south-west of parking lot 1 at the Mount Seymour ski resort: https://maps.app.goo.gl/P1Z9FAwCLuWYxjoH7 (https://maps.app.goo.gl/P1Z9FAwCLuWYxjoH7)\n \nThere can be limited parking on site so we have arranged for bus transportation. \n \nBus Details:\n* Drop-off at Glenbrook Middle School at 6:00PM on January 16\, 2026. The bus will leave at 6:15 sharp. "If you are on time\, you are late."\n* Pick-up at Glenbrook Middle School at about 12:00 noon on January 18\, 2026.\n* Reserve your spot on the bus here: https://scouts-canada---12th-new-westminster.square.site/product/bus-transportation/6 (https://scouts-canada---12th-new-westminster.square.site/product/bus-transportation/6) \n \nIf you are planning to drive your youth to and from camp\, drop-off is between 7:00 and 7:30 pm and pick-up is Sunday at 11:00 am. When you arrive you will need to escort your youth to the cabin which is in a clearing about 200m to the southwest of the parking lot. Note that the parking lot is near the top of the mountain close to the ski area.\n\nFor more details on this ScoutsTracker event\, go to\nhttps://scoutstracker.ca/beavers/view?event=3-2431-124925363422183-3286330ea4a7e08d509c

SUMMARY:Meeting #2 - PAB (Personal Acheivement Badges)
LOCATION:Outside undercover area (beside the playground)\; Lord Tweedsmuir Elementary
DESCRIPTION:Welcome all of our Beavers to our SECOND meeting of the year!\n \nToday\, we'll be deciding what PABs (Personal Acheivement Badges) we will be working on for the next few months. Personal Achievement Badges are designed to allow youth to explore and expand skills and knowledge in areas that are of particular interest to them. Some examples of potential Personal Acheivement Badges are: Earth Beaver (anything related to environmental stewardship)\, Tech Beaver (discovering how to use technology safely and responsibly)\, and Beavers of the World (discovering Scouting youth around the world\, and helping someone somewhere else in the Scouting way). If you want to learn more of PAB before the meeting\, you can find everything you ever wanted to know in the official Scouts Canada document about them:https://www.scouts.ca/scoutinglife/wp-content/uploads/bs/bs-pab-guide.pdf.\n \nA key part of Scouts Canada is having the youth direct the program\, with us Scouters acting as supports. Having the Beavers choose the PABs that we will be working on is agreat way for them to be involved early in the planning for the year. We hope everyone can join us to help decide which areas we will be focusing on for the next few months!\n \n\nFor more details on this ScoutsTracker event\, go to\nhttps://scoutstracker.ca/beavers/view?event=3-2431-8614348049236-abe0705392402b396f70

Parking will be a challenge due to road closures\, so figure that into your travel plans.\n \nThe parade starts at 11:00\, will typically proceed east along 8th Ave. and south down 6th St. to Queens\, left on Queens Ave. to 1st St.\, and north to the Queens Park Arena area. Parents will meet us at the parking lot at 12:00.\n \nPlease see the Parade Route map (https://12thnewwestbeaverscolonyb.files.wordpress.com/2016/05/parade-route-map.pdf) for the assembly area and the parade route.\n\nIf you RSVP'd for the post parade activities please bring your $5 per person for the lunch/campfire/badge to the parade. You can join us for a sandwich lunch at Camp. SUMMARY:Meeting 12 - Crafts\, PAB review and Northern Lights Ceremony
LOCATION:Gym\; Lord Tweedsmuir Elementary
DESCRIPTION:Welcome back after our week off! Hope everyone had a restful week off\, weather recovering from a busy camp weekend\, or just enjoying the sun (and fog).\n \nThis week\, we'll be doing some winter activities and crafts!\n \nWe're going to do a review of our work towards the Creative Beaver badge\, which will be the last step for most our beavers towards getting their Creative Beaver badge! Anyone who has been to at least three of our creative activites this year will get their badge at our next badge presentation.\n \nSpeaking of creative activities\, we'll also be crafting scarfs. Scouter Hawkeye spent lots of time earlier this month preparing supplies for scarf making at winter camp\, but everyone was too busy playing in the snow to make them.. not to worry\, we'll make them this week.\n \nFinally\, we will be having our Northern Lights Ceremony for our White Tails who want to pursue their North Star Badge (Beavers' Top of Section Award). We'll have a brief ceremony\, which all the beavers will play a role in\, and those pursing the badge will be given their Northern Lights Tail.\n \nLook forward to seeing everyone there!\n\nFor more details on this ScoutsTracker event\, go to\nhttps://scoutstracker.ca/beavers/view?event=3-2431-46568023867069-6b289c54d7fcff5d0c98

Youth will be instructed to pack their large camping backpack/duffel bag for the meeting prior to camp. These bags will be loaded into the trailer and brough directly to camp. Only gear that the youth will not need during travel should be in this bag (e.g. sleeping bag\, sleeping mat\, clothing\, mess kit\, etc).\n* Youth should bring a daypack for travel with water\, personal medication or items such as sunglasses and hats\, and a bagged dinner to eat on the ferry\n* When returning on Sunday\, the group will arrange a meeting point to pick up the large bags from the trailer. Details to be provided.\n \nHorne Lake Caves\n* As one of our camp activities\, the group will be taking part in a cave tour at Horne Lake Caves\n* All underage participants must have a completed parental consent form (https://hornelake.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/parent_forms-2022.pdf)\n* All adult participants aged 19 or over must complete a waiver of liability (https://hornelake.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/hra-waiver.pdf)\n* All participants must wear proper footgear (no crocs\, sandals\, or slides). As there is often water running in the caves\, your feet might get wet. Cubs can wear gumboots or bring a change of shoes and socks (or both!)\n* The temperature inside the caves is 8 degrees celsius. Participants should be wearing long pants and a sweatshirt or jacket.\n* The tour involves some climbing and travel on rocky and uneven floors. Please be advised that part of the tour involves turning off all the lights to briefly experience the total darkness of the caves. If there are cubs who are claustrophobic\, the group can arrange an alternate activity\, but we find most cubs are excited and curious and end up enjoying the cave tour immensely. \n \nPayment:\nPlease make your payment at the Link HERE (https://scouts-canada---12th-new-westminster.square.site/product/cub-year-end-camp/57?cs=true&amp\;cst=custom)\n\nFor more details on this ScoutsTracker event\, go to\nhttps://scoutstracker.ca/beavers/view?event=3-2431-41845378202247-0764c929c864d8b91f54

SUMMARY:Bottle Drive
LOCATION:City Works Yard at 901 First Street
DESCRIPTION:This year\, the bottle drive is based out the City Works Yard at 901 First Street.\n \nDate: Saturday\, January 4\, 2025\nTime: 10:00 AM start\, 3:00 PM end.\nStarting Place: City Works Yard at 901 First Street\, just a block west of Royal Centre Mall (Safeway)\nEnding places: City Works Yard.\n \nCity Works yard:\nhttps://www.google.com/maps/place/City+of+New+Westminster+Engineering+Operations/@49.2219413\,-122.9174555\,79m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m12!1m6!3m5!1s0x548677e3982dab07:0xee59c1b90d660366!2sCity+of+New+Westminster+Engineering+Operations!8m2!3d49.2223405!4d-122.917588!3m4!1s0x548677e3982dab07:0xee59c1b90d660366!8m2!3d49.2223405!4d-122.917588 (https://www.google.com/maps/place/City+of+New+Westminster+Engineering+Operations/@49.2219413\,-122.9174555\,79m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m12!1m6!3m5!1s0x548677e3982dab07:0xee59c1b90d660366!2sCity+of+New+Westminster+Engineering+Operations!8m2!3d49.2223405!4d-122.917588!3m4!1s0x548677e3982dab07:0xee59c1b90d660366!8m2!3d49.2223405!4d-122.917588)\n \nA warm lunch of hot dogs and hot chocolate will be provided by the Group at the City Works Yard. \n \nYouth should be wearing their full uniforms. \n \nWe would like parents to remain and participate by taking their kids out on the routes rather than just dropping them off. You are welcome to join us for the entire time or for the time you have available. If you are able to bring a vehicle suitable for collecting returnable bottles and cans (a pickup is perfect) then that will help us out a lot.\n \nWe are planning to cover these neighbourhoods: Kelvin North\, Glenbrooke North\, and Massey/Victory Heights and some of Sapperton. Maybe more if we have the energy.\n \nTypically\, a vehicle will pick one of the ~50 routes and take a few parents/kids and drive the route. The kids must knock on every door and say what they are doing and what they are collecting for (fundraising for the 12th New Westminster Scout Group to send kids to camp).\n \nWhen the vehicle is full\, take it back to the Works Yard to unload. Then go out and do another route or finish your route. Repeat until done.\n \nNote that we need to follow the two Scouter rule - i.e. two adults with youth at all times.\n \nThis year\, we don't need to sort the bottles and cans - simply put them in the large bins. This will allow more time for collecting and less time spent sorting.\n\nFor more details on this ScoutsTracker event\, go to\nhttps://scoutstracker.ca/beavers/view?event=3-2431-74869134270787-c3f97ee0edfb8cfcdc6e
