A big part of scouts is giving back to the community! On Monday April 20 we are meeting at Upper Hume Park at the Spray Park area to do a park cleanup. New Westminster City Parks are an important part of our kids' growing up\, and this will be a great way to contribute to our community. \;

\nThis is a linking event with all New West Colonies. We will start the evening with a safety talk\, and spend time in small teams cleaning up the park. Gloves\, bags and pickers are all provided\, and we will end with some playtime on the playground.

\nColony A/B/C beavers are participating in a \;Science \;World \;sleepover on Saturday\, February 28\,2026. This is a large event attended by scout groups from around the lower mainland. While the camp isn't until February\, we do have to register well in advance\; the sign up deadline for this camp is January 14\, 2026 \; Beavers will need to \;RSVP before the deadline if they are planning on attending this unique sleepover camp.

\nThe dreaded Dragon has awakened from its 100-year slumber and is wreaking havoc across the land. Only the Cosmo Crest has the power to lull the Dragon back to sleep. Can the Beavers find it by Week 4?
\nOver four weeks\, Beavers will navigate a map of the land\, completing fun and challenging tasks along the way to uncover the Cosmo Crest. The Dragon Trail Quest takes Sections on a five-week journey through mystical lands\, where they will work as a team\, discover their personal strengths\, and use the Forces of Nature to overcome challenges and save the land.

\nThis is our annual all-Section winter camp at Mount Seymour that includes Beavers\, Cubs\, Scouts and Venturers.

\nThe Beavers and some Cubs will sleep in the main cabin (on bunkbeds with mattresses). \; Some senior Cubs and some Scouters will be in tents. \; Meals will be prepared and eaten inside the cabin. \; We are planning day hikes\, snow shoeing (snow permitting) and other activities over the weekend. \; \;The \;Venturers help out cooking and running the camp and typically sleep in the main hall.
\n\;
\nYouth and scouters \;tenting outside \;will be camped in the snow surrounding the chalet.
\n\;
\nA \;packing list will be provided by your Section Scouter. \;It is essentially the same as any other camp\, but we don't need sleeping foamies (for those in the cabin) and we don't need to bring a mess kit.

\nYour Section \;will have a cold weather talk at a meeting prior to the camp.

\nYouth camping outside \;should assemble the cold weather gear they&rsquo\;re planning to take to camp and bring it in your backpack to a meeting. \; This includes sleeping bag\, sleeping pad\, winter boots\, gloves/mitts/toques\, long johns\, etc. \; This will help us make sure they are prepared and that there are no surprises when they arrive on the first night (running shoes\, no jacket\, etc.). \; It will likely be cold at night so it is important that they keep warm and dry. \;

\nThe \;camp fee is $60.00 \;for members and $50 for parents \;and should be given to your Section Leader or electronically through the payment link provided. The cost for the bus is \;covered in the camp fee. \;Due to space limitation\, we must limit parent attendance to one Beaver parent per child. \;

\nFood is provided so there is no need to bring your own. \; At Mt. Seymour\, all the dishes and cooking gear is there\, so there is also no need to bring a mess kit.

Gravestone cleaning
\nJust before Remembrance Day our Group goes to the Fraser Cemetery and clean the gravestones of veterans. \; We do this in cooperation with The \;Society of the Officers of the Honorable Guard (SOHG). \; We have been doing this for a number of years and find it a great way to give back to the community. \; The youth receive credit for community service hours which counts towards their Top Section Award.

\nTo kick things off\, Beavers will create their own musical shakers\, which they&rsquo\;ll use to explore rhythm and keep the beat as they play along. They&rsquo\;ll then learn the basics of the keyboard\, including how to identify and name the keys on a piano.

\nWith guidance from our guest\, Beavers will have the opportunity to try playing simple notes and even create their own short melody. This hands-on session is designed to build confidence\, spark creativity\, and introduce the joy of making music in a fun and supportive environment. š¶
The Christmas party IS at the large picnic shelter in Queens Park\, and this is typically our last meeting until after Christmas.

\nThe Christmas party will start at 6:30 pm and is open to all youth and Scouters of 12th New Westminster along with \;parents and siblings. \;Parents are asked to contribute \;to the potluck &ndash\; some snacks and goodies to share with everyone. \; The Venturers will help with the food set up.

\nAt some point in the evening\, Santa will arrive and each child is invited to join Santa and receive a candy cane.

\nSwim-Up / Leap-Up / Climb-Up will take place on Monday\, 8 Jun 2026. \; This is the time when the White Tail (3rd year) Beavers &ldquo\;swim up&rdquo\; to Cubs\, 3rd year Cubs &ldquo\;leap up&rdquo\; to Scouts\, and 4th year Scouts &ldquo\;climb up&rdquo\; to Venturers\, and third year Venturers "swagger up" to Rovers.

\nEveryone in all Sections (not just the youth who are moving up) will meet from 6:15-8:30 at Queens Park by the \;SMALL (not the large one this year) picnic shelters next to the water park/playground.

\nWe encourage parents to attend this important ceremony for our Group. If you are unable to attend and will drop your youth off\, please note that pick-up times will align with your typical Section meeting times not the ScoutsTracker event times. If you normally meet until 7:30pm then please plan to pickup around that time. Make sure you check-in and out with your Section Scouter. \;

\nWe will be having a Krispy Kreme fundraiser at the event: 1 dozen for $15. Cash and card accepted. \;

\nWe meet just west of the New Westminster Secondary School on 8th Ave\, London St.\, Dublin St. or Edinburgh St. \; Look for the banners\, flags and other Scouts. \;Beavers and Cubs should be there by 10:30 and make sure that they \;sign in with a Scouter. \; Parking will be a challenge due to road closures\, so figure that into your travel plans.

\nThe parade starts at 11:00\, will typically proceed east along 8th Ave. and south down 6th St. to Queens\, left on Queens Ave. to 1st St.\, and north to the Queens Park Arena area. \; Parents will meet us at the parking lot at 12:00.

Welcome back after our week off! Hope everyone had a restful week off\, weather recovering from a busy camp weekend\, or just enjoying the sun (and fog).

\nThis week\, we'll be doing some winter activities and crafts!
\n\;
\nWe're going to do a review of our work towards the Creative Beaver badge\, which will be the last step for most our beavers towards getting their Creative Beaver badge! Anyone who has been to at least three of our creative activites this year will get their badge at our next badge presentation.
\n\;
\nSpeaking of creative activities\, we'll also be crafting scarfs. Scouter Hawkeye spent lots of time earlier this month preparing supplies for scarf making at winter camp\, but everyone was too busy playing in the snow to make them.. not to worry\, we'll make them this week.

\nFinally\, we will be having our Northern Lights Ceremony for our White Tails who want to pursue their North Star Badge (Beavers' Top of Section Award). We'll have a brief ceremony\, which all the beavers will play a role in\, and those pursing the badge will be given their Northern Lights Tail.

\nThis is our last meeting before the all sections camp at Whonnock. So\, we'll be spending most of our time preparing for camp: practicing our song\, skit\, and cheer for formal campfire\, discussing what to pack\, and other camp related themes. And\, of course\, we'll have some games to help the busy beavers burn off some energy!
\n\;
\nIf you have any questions about camp and what to expect\, this meeting is a perfect time to ask\, as we won't have a meeting next week\, just before camp (due to Thanksgiving holiday).

A brave band of beavers will set out on a their final chapter of a daring quest to protect their river from a fierce dragon blocking the water&rsquo\;s flow. Using teamwork\, clever planning\, and their strong building skills\, they outsmarted the dragon and saved their forest home. They will need to climb to to the top of the mountain where the river and dragon's lair is. \;
We will see you at Clip and Climb in Richmond for this final quest if you dare!

\nWe are planning to cover these neighbourhoods: Kelvin North\, Glenbrooke North\, and Massey/Victory Heights and some of Sapperton. \; Maybe more if we have the energy.

\nTypically\, a vehicle will pick one of the ~50 routes and take a few parents/kids and drive the route. The kids must knock on every door and say what they are doing and what they are collecting for (fundraising for the 12th New Westminster Scout Group to send kids to camp).
\n\;
\nWhen the vehicle is full\, take it back to the Works Yard to unload. \; Then go out and do another route or finish your route. \; Repeat until done.
\n\;
\nNote that we need to follow the two Scouter rule &ndash\; i.e. two adults with youth at all times.
\n\;
\nThis year\, we don&rsquo\;t need to sort the bottles and cans &ndash\; simply put them in the large bins. \; This will allow more time for collecting and less time spent sorting.
